The Samsung Galaxy A13 5G is a low-cost phone with good connectivity and good value for its price. Here's why it is worth it.
Samsung Galaxy A13
There is nothing new or groundbreaking in this phone. That is to be expected because the price is $249. For this price, you get a reliable device with a good camera, performance, and a healthy battery life. Samsung is very good at making these kinds of phones.
This phone launched in the US as an AT&T special, but now you can just buy it unlocked or through T-Mobile. The initial carrier relationship plays into what might be the most important reason to look at it now, though - it can use AT&T's newly unveiled C-band spectrum.
This helps to ensure that you get the 5G speed you want that is faster than 4G. Many networks have lacked this ability until now.
Here are the specs of the phone:
- Resolution: 720 x 1600 pixels (270 ppi density)
- Memory: 64 GB 4 GB RAM
- Main Camera: 50 MP, f/1.8, 26mm (wide), PDAF
- Selfie Camera: 5 MP, f/2.0, (wide)
- Sound: Loudspeaker (yes) and 3.5mm jack (yes)
- Battery: Li-Po 5000 mAh, non-removable and 15W wired
The $249 Price Point
The $249 price point is an interesting one. It makes it affordable - not quite for everyone, but for many people. I'd say about 80% of the phone market in the U.S. can afford this.
Samsung has also announced the A13's replacement, which is the Galaxy A14 5G. This phone comes with a longer security support policy and a lower price of just $199.
It's interesting that the next version is cheaper, and I think that is probably because either some features are being removed, the hardware is being scaled back a bit, or Samsung reached a volume of production that economies of scale kicked in.
What do you think about this new phone from Samsung? Have you used it before?
