Twitter announced in a tweet that all API usage will require a paid account starting February 9th, 2023.
This appears to be a latest in a string of operations designed to move people to paid offerings on Twitter. Developers were not very happy about the change, with thousands of replies stating their unhappiness.
Whether this change will drive most developers away and reduce Twitter overall as a platform, or make it more successful, remains to be seen.
